There is currently a carillon of 25 bells in the tower of Goddard Chapel that are rung every day at five o'clock in the afternoon. The first of these bells was a gift from the class of 1898 on the occasion of their 10th reunion in 1908.
While silk may hold a cherished position in many closets around the world, Tufts biomedical engineering professor David Kaplan is trying to redefine how we see the versatile material. His lab has successfully created optical lenses made from silk which are of a similar quality to lenses made from glass or plastic, except the silk is entirely biodegradable.
