Jumbo Recap

Jumbo RecapCommencement weekend brought a mixed bag of victory and defeat to Tufts teams in NCAA competition.

Medford/Somerville, Mass. [05.24.10] For nine members of the Tufts University men's lacrosse team, having to miss commencement this past Sunday was not in vain.

Coming back from a 6-3 deficit at the half, the team shut down Cortland State University's 16-game winning streak, beating the defending national champions 10-9 on May 23 at the NCAA semifinals.

Ranked sixth in the nation, the team had never been to the NCAA quarterfinals prior to this year and hopes to cap off the season with a win against Salisbury University in the NCAA Division III Championship game on May 30 in Baltimore.

Also hitting the field this past weekend, the men's baseball team took on University of Massachusetts-Boston in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Baseball Championship on May 22.

Despite being the top seeded team in the tournament, the Jumbos fell 12-6 to the seventh seed UMass team, which clinched its first regional championship.

Tufts finished its school-record season 34-7 overall.
