Last Week At Tufts...International political advisers, CEOs and area high school students come to campus.

Medford/Somerville, Mass. [04.10.09] Apr. 6: Anna Tsing, professor of anthropology at the University of California, Santa Cruaz gave a lecture entitled "Supply Chains and the Human Condition," exploring the nexus of inequality and cultural diversity that characterizes our times.

Apr. 6: Advertising CEO Page Thompson of Omnicom Media Group (OMG), shared his views on the reinvention of media and advertising in an event was sponsored by Tufts Imaginet.

Apr. 7: Dr. Joel S. Migdal, Robert F. Philip Professor of International Studies at the University of Washington, gave a lecture entitled "Israel in the New Middle East." The event was part of the spring 2009 Fares Lecture Series.

Apr. 7: Ram Manikkalingam, advisor to former Sri Lankan President Kumaratunga, spoke about human rights and reconstruction in the lecture "Military Solutions to Political Conflict: The Case of Sri Lanka." The event was organized by the South Asian Political Action Committee (SAPAC) and co-Sponsored by the Project on Justice in Times of Transition.

Apr. 8: Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine sponsored a lecture by speaker Ronnie Copeland entitled "Animals and Literature."

Apr 8: Professors Denis Fermental and Robert Devigne delivered the 2009 Last Lecture, a lecture series that is a format for faculty to share reflections from their journey and speak as if it were the last time addressing the Tufts community. Both professors were nominated by the Senior Class.

Apr. 9: Fenway High School students, whom the Teacher Education group helped fund to send to the Inauguration, visited Steve Cohen's School and Society class to speak about their trip to dc and effective high schools.

Apr 10: Dr. Thomas M. Nichols, an expert on Russia and international security, spoke at the US-Russia Relations Symposium on the future of these two nations. The event was sponsored by the International Relations Program, the Director's Leadership Council, Sigma Iota Rho, ALLIES, Russian Circle, German/Russian/Asian Languages Department, and Pi Sigma Alpha.

Apr. 10: Acumen Fund CEO and "The Blue Sweater" author Jacqueline Novogratz visited Tufts to discuss her innovative work in developing venture capital solutions to global poverty.

Apr. 10: Documentary filmmaker Magee McIlvaine, Zimbawean artists/activists Comrade Fatso and Outspoken, and Fletcher student Niambi Young spoke on the panel "Hip Hop's Role in Society and Politics in Contemporary Africa." The event was sponsored by the group Hip Hop for Social Change.
