Doctors Need Doctors Too
Tufts Medical Professor Says Physicians Often Avoid Their Own Check-Ups.

Boston -- While they often advocate regular medical check-ups, many doctors don't follow their own advice. Despite their medical training, Tufts' Peter Lindenauer says doctors need regular exams just as much as the general public.

"Doctors are no different than anyone else," the Tufts medical professor told Healthscout -- an online medical information service. "It's important to have a primary care doctor, and it probably doesn't help to encourage patients to seek primary and prevention care services when doctors don't do it also."

According to Lindenauer, demanding work schedules and professional training are often cited by doctors as excuses for not getting their own check-ups.

"Physicians may have a more realistic view of what is and isn't possible in terms of treating illness and preventing death, but that's still not a good enough reason for doctors not to get regular health care," Lindenauer told HealthScout.
