Hong
Kong, China – The Tufts Institute
for Leadership and International Perspective kicked off its second
year in July with an expanded program. Twenty students -- representing
six nationalities, 10 fields of study and 13 languages -- spent
two months in Hong Kong preparing themselves to be some of the new
millennium's leaders.
Pairing
10 students from Tufts with 10 students from Hong Kong and Chinese
Universities, Tufts' Institute offered this outstanding group a
unique combination of international business experience, leadership
training and cross-cultural team building.
This
year's Institute involves an impressive array of global corporate
sponsors. Tufts students and their partners worked on business challenges
at companies including TIME Inc Asia, Saatchi & Saatchi, the Stock
Exchange of Hong Kong and GE Information Service International as
well as government offices including the Hong Kong Health and Welfare
Bureau.
The
two-month Institute grew following a successful inaugural year in
1998. The first 14 students to complete the program have been praised
across the globe. Last year's teams worked on projects in international
investment and finance, health care, mass media, marketing and management
consulting.
"I
consider the Tufts Institute for Leadership and International Perspective
a milestone in my life -- a starting point of my personal globalization,"
said Meryl Wu, a graduate of Beijing's Peking University. "Through
my experience in the Institute, I know more about myself and I cannot
deny my drive for a 'cross-cultural career.'"
