"Welcome To Tufts University!"

Tufts University Welcomes The Class of 2004
Accomplished Freshmen Unpack Bags, Prepare To Start College Experience

Medford/Somerville, Mass. -- "At Tufts University, we will urge you to explore your interests, to expand your thinking, and to experience the joy of learning," University President John DiBiaggio told the 1,186 members of the Class of 2004, during the University's matriculation ceremony. One of the most accomplished classes in Tufts' 148-year history, the freshman received a standing ovation from thousands of parents, siblings, faculty and staff.

DiBiaggio told the students to enjoy their time at college and to take advantage of the University's world-renowned programs, faculty and research.

"As students at Tufts University, the Class of 2004 will have unprecedented opportunities to explore so many areas of interest, and so many topics of personal, regional, and international importance. This is truly the beginning of a very special journey for all of you. I wish you well, and I look forward to sharing these next four years with you," DiBiaggio told the students.

The class represents 46 states and territories and 40 countries. Over 13 percent of the class is international, and for more than 23% of of the class, English is not the primary language spoken at home.
