Protect Your Skin From The Sun, Says Tufts Medical Professor
The Sun Doesn't Discriminate When it Comes to UV Damage

Boston, Mass. -- It is never too late to start protecting your skin from the sun’s ultra-violet rays, says Nellie Konnikov, a professor of dermatology at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Konnikov told the Boston Herald that the sun doesn’t discriminate by age.

“It is important for those in their 40s and 50s to get to know their skin and to start using protection,” she said. Don’t assume that you are protected if you stay in your car or your home, says the Tufts professor. “Ultraviolet rays can even get through windows,” Konnikov said – she added that UV rays pose risks to people of all skin types, regardless of whether they burn easily or not.

But don’t avoid sunlight completely, Konnikov notes that the sun increases vitamin D levels, can fight acne and may even treat depression. “Sunlight can be great, just as long as you’re protected from the UV rays,” she told the Herald.
