Tufts University Shaping Young Citizens, Says Christian Science Monitor

Medford/Somerville, Mass. – Citing a decline in activism among young people, the editors of the Christian Science Monitor highlighted Tufts’ College of Citizenship and Public Service as an example of a new approach to engaging students in active citizenship. The editorial appeared three days after the New York Times called the Tufts initiative the “most comprehensive” program of its kind.

According to the Monitor’s editors, Tufts’ program moves beyond just acts of service, encouraging students to engage in “some original thinking about leadership and what it means to bring about change in society.”

The initiative received international attention last week as well. The International Herald Tribune ran the New York Times’ article about Pierre and Pam Omidyar’s $10 million donation to the Tufts program.
