Tufts Alum and Honored Poet Dies at 88
“Double Jumbo” leaves behind distinguished career

Medford/Somerville, Mass. – Mildred Dodge Jeremy Ingalls, an honored poet and Tufts graduate, died last month at the age of 88. Best known as Dr. Jeremy Ingalls, she received both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Tufts, before she became a Chinese, English literature, and creative writing professor.

   Dr. Ingalls’ work includes “The Metaphysical Sword,” which won the Yale Series of Younger Poets prize, in 1941. Ingalls' work can be found in the Tufts Library including “A book of legends” “The Galilean way” “Metaphysical aspects of American poetry” “The metaphysical sword” “Tahl” “These islands also” “The woman from the island” “The political history of china 1840-1928”
