Members of the panel included Kimberly Abbott, media advisor for North America to the International Crisis Group, Dave Marash, anchor for Al Jazeera English, Charles Sennott, Staff Writer, Special Projects Team at The Boston Globe, and Commander Joseph “Cappy” Surette, Public Affairs Officer, European Command, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe.
“Edward R. Murrow’s work as an international correspondent defined coverage of global issues for generations. Given that our focus at Tufts is to give students the best liberal arts-based media education we can, along with our insistence on the importance of global awareness and civic engagement, it made total sense that we build an event to honor the legacy of Murrow, and to think about contemporary issues in journalism in light of this legacy,” said Julie Dobrow, director of the Media and Public Service Program.
The event was co-sponsored by the Communications & Media Studies Program, Murrow Center at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, and Tisch College.
At last year’s inaugural Forum, former ABC “Nightline” anchor Ted Koppel and present managing editor of the Discovery Channel, hosted a panel on “What Would Murrow See Now? The US Press and the World.”
