New York Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. Returns To Alma Mater

Medford/Somerville, Mass. The technological revolution is simultaneously the biggest challenge and the most exciting development for today’s media giants, New York Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. told an audience of Tufts students. The 1974 Tufts grad also said that he benefited from quite a few lessons learned at his alma mater that enable him to usher one of the world’s most respected newspapers into the future.

“The values nurtured at Tufts…are crucial to success in the business world,” said Sulzberger, in a talk with students and faculty. Fondly recalling his activism at college, Sulzberger said Tufts helped him develop “the ability to achieve bold and ambitious goals by merging thought with action.”

Now those skills are in even greater demand. Sulzberger and the New York Times are planning their strategy for merging recent technological developments with the paper's long-standing traditions of ethics, quality and consistency. Said Sulzberger, “The biggest challenge facing the news media is to maintain its balance as this digital revolution picks up speed.”
