Winfrey Adds Novel By Tufts Lecturer To Her Popular Book List

Medford/Somerville, Mass. -- The newest novel by Tufts lecturer Andre Dubus III earned high praise from Oprah Winfrey on Thursday. The daytime host announced during her highly rated talk show that "House of Sand and Fog" was the newest addition to her extremely popular book club.

Calling the novel "my favorite read this year," Winfrey made Dubus' novel the 38th selection on her list. Over the last four seasons, Oprah's Book Club has established a reputation for turning its selections into best-sellers, prompting the Boston Herald to report: "Andre Dubus III has hit paydirt."

But Dubus is no stranger to success -- he was a finalist for the 1999 National Book Award for Fiction and earned several top literary awards, including a Pushcart Prize and the 1985 National Magazine Award for Fiction.
