Two Tufts
Grads Toast 30 Years, 30,000 Records Medford/Somerville, Mass- "We've always loved being in this area. It was our college home," said Marianne Leighton at the 30th anniversary party for Rounder Records. While Leighton, and Tufts graduates Ken Irwin and Bill Nowlin, haven't moved too far from their alma mater, they've gone miles in the music business. Rounder Records has released 30,000 records by a wide range of artists including Ellis Paul, Nancy Griffith, and George Thorogood & the Destroyers. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino recognized the trio's success with an official proclamation from the city of Boston. In it, Menino applauded the record label and its founders. "In recognition of your 30 years in the music industry and in appreciation of all your contributions to the City of Boston and its residents. Best wishes for your continued success in all your endeavors," he said. The Boston Globe was present at Rounder's 30th anniversary celebration this month and reported that the label will release a 30-title "Heritage Series" compilation CD in the next year.
