Founded in 1939, the Tufts Mountain Club was among the University’s
most popular student organization for decades. A quick review of
the first club rosters reveals that many Tufts leaders – including
President Leonard Carmichael and his wife, deans and professors
– became members of the club during its early years.
Still thriving
today, the mountain club is known for some of its unusual traditions
– including an annual Halloween prank by members who place
pumpkins on the top of Goddard chapel and various other lofty locations
around campus.

Convention quickly approaching, many political analysts have debated
the significance of the major networks’ decision to air just
a few hours of the week-long events during prime time. The events
might not dominate the channel listings, but Tufts’ political
science professor Jeffrey Berry says the conventions remain a media
force. |
